Finding Church during a Pandemic
I will be the first to admit I miss my church more than I realize I would. At first, I wasn’t sure how I was going to fill that void. On-line service that first Sunday was like someone had made me my favorite dessert. After doing some home projects and being bored with inventing things to do, I began to ask God to give me some help in filling that void. First came asking our Vestry to divide the directory and call our people to see how all were holding up. Great connection but lacked something.
The thought came to physically connect with everyone was to have a food drive by. We could collect food for a good cause and be able to see one another. We collected 1000 pounds of food and $600 for the Gulf Coast Christian Ministries. We also did 89 hygiene bags for the Grace at the Green light. Joy abounded!
A small group of us decided to socially distance and meet at the beach once a week. Lunch afterwards somewhere if we could find a place open to eat. More joy! When we were allowed to meet again inside church, getting to do flowers for the altar bought some peace and worship in its own way. God continued to give me little things to be joyful about over the next several weeks. Lifesaving surgery for my husband and good news of no signs of the cancer had spread. Being able to be there to take care of his recovery.
Before I knew it 5 months had passed, and God still gives little hints of things to work in the kingdom. I jump at any invitation to be involved. The first food drive by was such a success, we decided to do it again. This past Thursday we collected close to 1,000 pounds of food again, and $425. We also collected school supplies this time and what a huge success. Now to decide what’s next!
I miss you all so much. Take time to talk each with our Lord and Savior and He will provide you with unending answers. Be there for someone each day as He is there for you. Be faithful in knowing we will all worship together soon.
Love, Mellody Jenkins Senior Warden
