The First Lesson

Deuteronomy 30:9-14

Colossians 1:1-14
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
To the saints and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ in Colossae:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. You have heard of this hope before in the word of the truth, the gospel that has come to you. Just as it is bearing fruit and growing in the whole world, so it has been bearing fruit among yourselves from the
day you heard it and truly comprehended the grace of God. This you learned from
Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf,
and he has made known to us your love in the Spirit.
For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and

The Nicene Creed
Prayer Book 358

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.  Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.  For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.  With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.  He has spoken through the Prophets.  

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.  We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.  We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

Presider: Gracious God, you have taught us that loving you and our neighbor is the path to eternal life: Fill us with the knowledge of your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that we may lead lives worthy of Christ, and intercede effectively for the needs of the world, saying: To you, O God, we lift up our souls; O God, we put our trust in you.

Litanist: Generous One, you have made your Church strong with all of the strength that comes
from your glorious power, and you have enabled us to share in the inheritance of the saints in
light: Help us to know and understand the things we ought to do, and give us grace and power
faithfully to accomplish them. To you, O God, we lift up our souls; O God, we put our trust in you.

Eternal One, you have taught us that virtue comes not from office, privilege, or position, but from
showing empathy and mercy to our neighbor in need: Guide all in positions of authority to act
with such generous compassion that they will follow in your paths of love and faithfulness. To
you, O God, we lift up our souls; O God, we put our trust in you.

Merciful One, you have taught us that anyone in need is our neighbor, and you have shown us
that whoever responds with compassion toward another is following your will: Inspire the whole human race with such benevolence and care, that everyone on earth may find help and comfort in time of need. To you, O God, we lift up our souls; O God, we put our trust in you.

Loving One, you have promised prosperity and abundant life to those who follow you, and you

you.

Remember, O God, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting: We do not cease

our prayer list. We joyfully give thanks for all the grace present in our lives, especially for those
celebrating birthdays Jax, Kitty, Ava, Liam, Brianna, and Brenda. You are the God of our salvation;
you have enabled us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light: Hold in your eternal light
those who have died, especially those we now remember aloud or in the silence of our hearts

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.  Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him.  Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.
